EPISODE 4
WORK ME ON
Name of FS Student: Jasmin B. Del Rosario
Course: BSE
3A
Resource Teacher: Mrs.
Lorna Obedoza
Cooperating School: Isabela National High School
My Target
At the end of this activity, you will be skillful in designing
process – oriented performance assessment.
MY TASK
After
your observation experience you now have a deeply and principled understanding
of the concepts of authentic assessment used in the classroom. You can now go
through the process of designing performance assessment by the following these
steps:
1. Visit a class and identify performance-based activities.
2. Choose one performance-based activity and study its process.
3. Design a performance assessment plan for the activity you have
chosen.
4. Collect samples of performance-based assessment tools.
5. Reflect on your experience.
MY
TOOLS
In observing a class, take note of important
observations of the performance-based activity in the classroom. Make a
checklist of the important things you want to consider in your assessment
planning. Use the activity form provided for you. You may use format of
process-oriented assessment that you have taken in your assessment 2 class. The
rubrics are part and parcel of this assessment plan.

What are the best features of my
process-oriented performance assessment design?
The best feature of my assessment design is that it serves the purpose
for which the results will be used; it has clearly defined learning
objectives which are directly observable and measures the competencies of the
students.
|
What
specific conditions are necessary for a successful use of my process-oriented
performance assessment design?
Process-oriented
assessment must always determine the purpose, the construct, population and
the purpose of the assessment. This will help the user measure what he/she
really want to measure.
|
What basic points should the user of
this design consider?
In using this design, the user should consider the type of performance
he/she is going to assess, the instructional strategies used and the grading
approach.

ANALYSIS
1. Why do teachers
need to give attention to the students’ process-oriented tasks? Why do they
need to assess them?
Teachers
need to give attention to the students’ process-oriented tasks because learning
needs to be connected to the lives of the students. This can be done by
utilizing tasks that focus on students’ ability to use their knowledge and
skills in meaningful ways. It must be assessed so that students will be aware
about the significance of following the correct process or procedures.
2. In what conditions can the process-oriented
performance assessment be used appropriately?
Process-oriented
performance based assessment can be used when students perform activities where
the process or procedures used in the performance itself is to judged. Teachers
focus on how they do the task rather than what they have done.
REFLECTION
Make reflections on your feelings and thoughts about the
observations made in this FS.
In
this episode, we were assigned to make a process-oriented performance
assessment plan and a sample checklist.
With
this task, I realized how crucial it is to make a process-oriented performance
assessment plan. In doing such, you need to be very careful in making the
criteria to be used; the characteristics that must be observed in their performance.
The results will be interpreted and will be used for decision making. Also, the
objective must be stated in directly observable behaviors of the students to
measure what you really want to measure. Before conducting the task, the
teacher should always communicate to the students the criteria on how they will
be assessed to avoid bias and subjectivity.
In
the class that I am observing, I observe that the teacher employ different
process-oriented task. She acts as a facilitator and the students are cooperative
and responsible in doing the task. Whether it is an individual or group
activity, the teacher see to it that students display the skills she wants them
to develop.
